In October 2017, Westchester County announced a new community initiative in conjunction with Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Elected and public safety officials joined representatives from the county’s Office for Women and other women’s advocates to announce a $200,000 grant that will fund domestic violence prevention in five northern Westchester municipalities.

The pilot program, which is funded for two years through the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence, will help strengthen a coordinated community response to domestic violence. With a focus on increased cooperation and communication, the program will offer training sessions to police and victim’s advocates and establish a secure location in northern Westchester where domestic violence victims can access support services.
